Open Letter to the Ontario PC Party

Ontario PC Party members deserve to have a say on Free My Booze at the policy convention in November. Sign this open letter and tell Patrick Brown and the Ontario PCs: it’s time to Free My Booze!

I am writing to ask that members be given a vote on reforming Ontario’s archaic alcohol retail system. In June 2015, Patrick Brown was asked about ending The Beer Store’s near-monopoly on beer sales in Ontario, his response was: “I think Conservatives we should always be in favour of market competition. I think that’s an example of where more market competition would do us well. But I would say this on top of that: that’s my personal position. I want to make sure that all the policies we talk about today is not just the leaders of the party saying, ‘we’re doing this.’ The policies we campaign on and fight the next election with have to be voted on by you. It has to be a policy process that’s dictated by the membership.” This past May when the members submitted their proposals, FreeMyBooze was put forward by more riding associations than any other single proposal in the party – including unanimous support by the Eastern Ontario ridings at a regional meeting, 10 riding associations from all over the province, a nominated candidate, and the PC Youth Association. To put it bluntly, the grassroots has spoken – they want a vote on major alcohol retail reform. They want to vote on FreeMyBooze. Let the members have their say.
